Connection Between Damping Torque Analysis and Energy Flow Analysis in Damping Performance Evaluation for Electromechanical Oscillations in Power Systems

The damping performance evaluation for electro-mechanical oscillations in power systems is crucial the stable operation of modern systems. In this paper, connection between two commonly-used methods, i.e., torque analysis (DTA) and energy flow (EFA), are systematically examined revealed better understanding oscillatory mechanism. First, a concept aggregated coefficient proposed derived based on DTA multi-machine systems, which can characterize integration effect contribution from whole system. Then, pre-processing measurements at terminal local generator conducted EFA, frequency-decomposed attenuation defined to screen with respect interested frequency. On basis, frequency spectrum employed rigorously prove that results EFA essentially equivalent, valid arbitrary types synchronous models Additionally, consistency further verified by numerical calculation case studies. relationship coefficients eigenvalue (or ratio) finally revealed, consolidates application concepts evaluation.
